Old Memories for my New Blog

Back in the 1970's I decided to quit my job in Australia and head for Europe. After journeying around Europe I headed for home along a route travelled by many other young Australians including an overland journey from London to Kathmandu. In those days travel through countries like Afghanistan was relatively safe, and after this journey I had well and truly been bitten by the "travel bug".

Looking through some old photos I came across this one taken in Herat in Western Afghanistan. I remember so clearly how I was wandering down a lane in the late afternoon and came across this man selling fruit, peering around the edge of a wall with his rooster apparently standing guard, all bathed in a shaft of sunlight.

Well, I've travelled a lot since then and taken many more photos. I'll be writing about some of my journeys in this new blog.
